Burden of Hope

I am a Delhite. Born, Brought up, and Spoiled here in Delhi. Delhi -  The Mahanagari- My city. My home, My love.  People across all walks of life come here in search of a happily ever after. With the hope that the "Mahanagri" will fulfill their dreams, that the enchanted place will eat away their worries, fill their stomach, and ensure the future of their children. But Alas !! The Mahanagari somehow always fell short.  The burden of hopes and dreams becomes too much to bear.

Hopes & dreams - the heaviest words in the dictionary bigger than Everest deeper than ocean. We dream of a brighter future and hope for a better tomorrow, but in all these rosy-colored dreamlands we forget to take the ownership.

We all have an idea of an ideal life, which we live as per the rules engraved in our souls since the very beginning. We try to live up to the expectations and hopes of our parents while parallelly managing our own dreams. We choose our life such that it doesn't contradict anything or anyone. We are happy to make compromises, assuming it is for the sake of the world, as long as some purpose (if not all) is fulfilled. Our goals our dreams change as per the opportunities arise and we adjust to the situation. And it goes on and on, until it blows up in our faces i.e. until the patchwork of our thinking that, we are making compromising because of the social norm, wear off and we are forced to take the responsibilities.

Everything we do in our life is only because of a decision we had made, accepting others approvals over yours is a decision, walking the road you are told to walk is your decision, taking a career against your will is your decision. Make no mistakes, every turn you take in your life whether to please someone or in the name of social norm is your decision. You can be forced, threaten, beaten but doing an action is your decision. And as long as you will keep putting blames of wrong turns made in your life on someone else you will keep on making decision piggybacking on the desires of someone else.

Your hopes and dreams are your responsibilities to fulfill not someone else's burden to bear. To own your life is to take ownership for all the wrong turns and right turns alike. If you keep giving credit for bad turns to someone else you won't be able to enjoy your good turns. True independence comes from standing on your own feet happy with your scars and victory cups alike.

Make a choice and take the decision. After all that is what we have been doing all our lives but this time let's not blame others of our shattered dreams and lost hopes.
